I've moved into a house with a garden and a modest sized orchard, which have been untended for at least 6 years. Once a thriving vegetable plot, the front and side gardens, in recent years, have been turfed (badly). The orchard had become completely overgrown; although I've now had the hedge laid properly and the fruit trees will soon be carefully pruned.
I've managed to design and develop gardens in other houses I've lived in, so I'm looking forward to what can be achieved here. Although I have a good idea of what I would like to plant and have a list of dream plants, I'm holding on until I learn more about the soil and the local conditions. Im also hoping that the orchard will have wildflowers and plants that might be currently dormant.
I will be going for planting that is especially attractive to bees, butterflied and birds. I shall also want to have a pond and a herb bed.
At the moment and for some time, the only thing I have in abundance to swap is turf! However, if anyone is moving or dividing perennials, herbs or anything else in my area, I would be interested.
