Plant Finder: about Geranium sanguineum ‘Album’

Common names

Bloody Cranesbill 'Album'

Geranium sanguineum ‘Album’ (Bloody Cranesbill 'Album'). This hardy geranium has pure white flowers and small, narrowly divided dark green leaves, which turn shades of orange and red in the autumn.

They are fully to half hardy. Most species will prefer sun, but some do better in the shade. They will grow in any but waterlogged soil. Outdoors, grow larger species and hybrids in any moderately fertile, well-drained soil. Grow small species and hybrids in humus-rich, sharply drained soil in full sun. Under glass, grow half hardy species in loam-based potting compost with added sharp sand, in bright filtered light. During the growing season, water freely and apply a balanced liquid fertilizer monthly. Water sparingly in winter.

Interest and use

This plant trails and so can be used to soften a path at the front of a border or in rockeries. Grown primarily for flowers, although it also has good autumn foliage colour.
