An unusual but easily grown tree, Cercidiphyllum japonicum is known for its beautiful, heart-shaped leaves which turn fantastic shades of yellow, purple and red in autumn.
Leaves are bright green in spring/summer, the autumn colour varies from plant to plant, with the leaves of some turning brilliant orange or yellow and others turning glowing purple and red. When the leaves fall, they give off an aroma similar to burnt sugar or candy floss.

Cercidiphyllum japonicum (Katsura tree). This is a compact-pyramidal deciduous tree with a spreading nature. It will produce heart-shaped, opposite or alternate toothed leaves, making attractive fragrant foliage; the colours constantly changing. It will also provides good shade. The flowers are pinkish white and will appear in spiked clusters in the early spring. It can grow to a height of 20m.
Late frosts may damage young foliage, but do not usually cause lasting harm.
