Sun or shade, any soil. Use secateurs, not a hedgecutter, to keep it in shape: if you cut the leaves, they will go brown and die, looking horrible.

Aucuba japonica ‘Crotonifolia’ (Japanese aucuba). An evergreen, bushy, dense shrub with stout, green shoots. Leaves are large, glossy and dark green, heavily mottled yellow. In mid-spring, small, purplish flowers are borne, then followed by bright red berries.


This shrub will tolerate a wide range of conditions including full sun to deep shade and dry to moist soils.
