Douglas fir, Pacific coast Douglas fir, Green Douglas fir
Pseudotsuga menziesii (Douglas fir). This conifer is a valuable timber tree from the Pacific Coast. The evergreen foliage is very fragrant. Large cones are produced every year, after 10 years or so of growth. They will need some moisture to perform well and will tolerate wind and shade.
These are frost-hardy trees and prefer cold climates with cool, deep soil and sunny, open spaces.
Hedging. Year-round interest.
