Common names



Ribes divaricatum (Worcesterberry). This species is a deciduous thorny shrub growing to 3m. The leaves are round to heart-shaped, lobed and 2-6cm wide. The flowers are borne in clusters of green-purple blooms. The berries are round and black.


They are fully to frost hardy and will need moist, rich soil with full sun to semi-shade. You can propagate from seed or cuttings.

Interest and use

Grown for their edible fruits (currants and gooseberries) or their bird attracting flowers. Suitable for coastal conditions. Attracts butterflies.
