A rare large shrub or very small tree, Acer crataegifolium 'Veitchii' is densely branching and has long dark green leaves with striking white and pale pink variegation.

Suitable for small gardens, Acer crataegifolium 'Veitchii' gives a better foliage display when planted in sun or light, dappled shade and sheltered from strong winds. Also suitable for growing in a large container or for bonsai.

Grower Notes

Position: Full sun or light, dappled shade.
Soil: Well drained, slightly acid soil.
Hardiness: Hardy. Acer crataegifolium 'Veitchii' appreciates shelter from strong winds.
Rate of Growth: Slow to moderate.
Habit: Acer crataegifolium 'Veitchii' eventually grows to be a large shrub or very small, densely branching tree.

Spread: 4 m (13 ft) / [up to 2 m (6 ft) after 10 years]

Note: The variegation on this plant is very lovely and generally reliable, but can sometimes be a little bit random. If the leaves on a new shoot emerge dark green in colour, do not prune off immediately as the leaves can often emerge variegated in the following year. Only prune out altogether if no variegated leaves appears in the 2nd year of growth.
