Native to China, Acer davidii has a snake-like white striped bark which is most striking in winter. Leaves are dark green in spring/summer, turning orange/yellow in autumn.
Acer davidii makes a fine garden tree ideal for a sheltered position, on its own or as part of a woody border. Particularly good next to a path or door, where its elegance and bark are best appreciated.

Père David's maple, Snake-bark maple
Acer davidii (Père David's maple). This maple has an open arching habit, and it has striped grey-green bark. The ovate leaves are dark green and glossy, long and pointed at the end but mostly unlobed. In the autumn they turn yellow-orange. In a cool, humid climate, this tree grows rapidly to about 10m.
Acers are fully to frost hardy and will require sun or semi-shade in fertile, well-drained soil.
