Acer palmatum ‘Atropurpureum’ (Japanese maple). The most popular cultivar of Japanese Maple is ‘Atropurpureum’, which is dense and spreading, with dark purple spring foliage giving way to paler olive-purple in summer and bright scarlet tones in autumn.
It will prefer warmer climates than most other maples. It will need shade and shelter or the leaves may shrivel.
