Spring leaves on this classic maple cultivar emerge a vivid rich-red. As summer progresses the older leaves darken to green but young shoots are still tipped with burnished-red young leaves.
The leaves finally turn red and orange in autumn before falling. An excellent foliage plant, Acer palmatum 'Deshojo' gives early garden colour and is one of the most traditional plants to grow as a bonsai.

Deshojo Maple, Maple
Acer palmatum ‘Deshojo’ (Deshojo Maple). This Japanese Acer is a small, upright arching tree, with palmately-lobed salmon-pink leaves emerging in the spring, turning mid green in the summer and then bright red in the autumn. This plant belongs to the shojo group of cultivars which means 'red-faced monkey'.
It will prefer warmer climates than most other maples. It will need shade and shelter or the leaves may shrivel.
Grown for its habit and for foliage form and colour. A popular Bonsai plant.
