This grower is sure of this plant identification.

This elegant, small, mound forming maple has deeply cut, burgundy coloured leaves which turn scarlet and crimson in autumn. It forms an upright, yet compact shrub with flowing, slightly weeping branches one established.

Acer palmatum var dissectum 'Inaba-shidare' looks particularly attractive when planted next to ponds or streams and also makes an excellent specimen for growing in a large container.

Grower Notes

Position: Full sun or partial shade.
Soil: Any well drained, neutral or slightly acid, fertile soil.
Hardiness: Hardy. Will grow best when planted in an area sheltered from strong winds.
Rate of Growth: Slow.
Habit: Medium sized shrub with a mound-like form and arching branches.
Height: up to 2 m (6 ft)
Spread: 2 m (6 ft)
Notes: This plant is somewhat similar to Acer palmatum 'Dissectum Garnet', but slightly larger with cascading, arching branches. The Japanese name 'Inaba-shidare translates to 'Leaves of the rice plant' in English!
Please bear in mind that this slow growing Acer is not an instant specimen plant and will take at least several years (after planting/potting on) to grow and fill out into the distinctive rounded, mound-like habit.

Description

Acer palmatum ‘Dissectum Inabe Shidare’ (Japanese maple 'Inaba-shidare'). A small, yet vigorous shrub with deeply divided burgundy leaves turning bright red in autumn. It has a weeping habit and burgundy flowers.

Cultivation

It will prefer warmer climates than most other maples. It will need shade and shelter or the leaves may shrivel.
