An excitingly delicate maple, Acer palmatum 'Koto No Ito' has 5 or 7 lobed leaves with trailing individual lobes, long thin and narrow. Summer leaves are apple green, turning bronze and golden yellow in autumn.

This tree will grow slowly into a medium sized or large shrub over time and the delicate leaves prefer shelter from strong winds. Also successful in a large container.

Soil: Well drained, fertile soil.
Hardiness: Hardy. Acer palmatum 'Koto No Ito' will grow best when planted in an area sheltered from strong winds.

Acer palmatum ‘Koto No Ito’ (Dancing Monkey Tree). This delicate maple has deeply incised leaves with trailing long lobes which inspired Koichiro Wada of Japan to name it 'Koto no ito' which means 'harp strings'. The leaves are mid green in summer, turning bronze, gold and orange in autumn. The tree resembles willow from a distance.
