Acer palmatum ‘Red Pygmy’ (Japanese maple). The growth habit of this variety is mound-like. It is vase-shaped, with linear leaves that are dark red in spring, purple-green in summer and turning gold in autumn.
It will prefer warmer climates than most other maples. It will need shade and shelter or the leaves may shrivel.
