In recent years Acer rubrum 'October Glory' has established itself as one of the most spectacular trees in autumn. The leaves turn long lasting shades of rich metallic-red and orange in October.

A handsome and vigorous cultivar, Acer rubrum 'October Glory' makes a fantastic and colourful street or garden tree and can also be planted en masse to create an unusual screen or avenue!

Soil: Any well drained, fertile soil. The autumn colour will be more intense in more acidic soils!

Description

Acer rubrum ‘October Glory’ PBR (Red maple). This is a female cultivar of Acer rubrum with glossy green foliage that turns brilliant orange-red in early autumn. The leaves are 3-5 lobed. In the spring the bare branches are covered with clusters of tiny red flowers.

Cultivation

It is better grown in fertile soil that is well-prepared since this will enable the young roots to spread easily, developing a strong root system. It does not mind wet soil because it naturally grows in low and swampy areas. Tolerates air pollution.
