Carpinus betulus ‘Purpurea’

For sale by Bluebell Nursery

This grower is sure of this plant identification.

An intriguing, rare Carpinus named for the plum purple colour of its young growing tips in spring and summer. These fade to a lush, dark green. In a good crisp autumn, they then turn a reliable, rich-yellow.

Although 'Purpurea' grows to be a tree if left to its own devices, it can be kept as a large shrub by pruning lightly to produce a flush of colourful new shoots each spring.

Supplied Size: 4L containers (approx 80 - 100 cm tall)
