Native to parts of China, Chaenomeles speciosa 'Umbilicata' has masses of handsome, single, salmon pink flowers which appear in spring before the dark green leaves emerge. An easy to grow, medium sized garden shrub with eye-catching and colourful spring flowers.

Chaenomeles speciosa ‘Umbilicata’ (Ornamental Quince). This flowering quince has rose-pink to salmon pink flowers with golden centres that open before the leaves unfurl. Leaves turn yellow in autumn.

Cultivation

Prefers a sunny, sheltered position. Remove unwanted suckers.

Interest and use

Often used as a wall shrub. This plant's early flowering is also a boon for bees and moths.
