A native of Himalayan and W. China grasslands known for its soft, downy grey-green leaves with a whitish underside and vivid whorls of orange-scarlet flowers in summer.

A fantastic shrub with an open, upright habit, best in a sunny, warm garden.

Grower Notes

Position: Full sun.
Soil: Fertile, well drained soil.
Hardiness: Somewhat hardy. In the U.K. Colquhounia coccinea grows best against a south facing wall or fence. After a hard frost, it can die back, but usually regrows in late spring or early summer.
Flowering Period: July - September.
Flower Colour: Orange-scarlet
Rate of Growth: Moderate.
Habit: Large branching shrub.
Height: up to 2.5m (8 ft)
Spread: 1.5m (5 ft)

Colquhounia coccinea (Himalayan mint plant). An upright irregular semi-evergreen or evergreen tuft native to The Eastern Himalayas and SW China. Has fragrant large, lance-shaped to ovate-felty leaves and axillary whorls of deep red centred yellow flowers in late summer. It will grow to a height and spread of 3 m.
