Dasheen, Eddo, Taro, Coco-yam
Colocasia esculenta (Dasheen). A perennial vegetable native to Tropical East Asia. The large leaves are heart-shaped to sagittate and dark green variegated white. The tubers (or roots) are very similar to the potato and must be cooked well. The leaves can also be eaten and used in soups. May have a large amount of irritant crystals in the tubers, which can be removed by repeated boiling.
This crop has a minimum growing temperature of 10C and a maximum growing temperature of 35C; the optimal growing temperature is between 21C and 28C.
