An exceptional plant with twisted stems, Corylus avellana 'Contorta' was first found in a Gloucestershire hedgerow in the mid-19th century. This original plant still grows at Myddelton House in Middlesex.

Its amazing, gnarled and twisted branches create a dense round shrub of great interest all year round. It also has masses of small, creamy-white catkins in early spring.
