This grower is sure of this plant identification.

A nearly thornless native to China, Crataegus pinnatifida var. major 'Big Golden Star' has dark green leaves which turn a fantastic, crimson red in a good crisp autumn. Despite the name, this plant has clusters of white flowers in late spring followed by edible, red fruit (not gold!) nearly as large as crab apples.

A superb fruiting hawthorn once established!
