Dipelta floribunda

This grower is sure of this plant identification.

An outstanding plant native to China, Dipelta floribunda has upright stems bearing clusters of fragrant, funnel-shaped, pale-pink flowers with yellow throats in early summer.

These flowers are a little similar in appearance to those of a Weigela and very beautiful. The leaves are pale green and interesting, flaking bark develops as the plant becomes mature.

Grower Notes

Position: Full Sun or partial shade.
Soil: Moist yet well drained, fertile soil.
Hardiness: Reasonably hardy. Dipelta floribunda requires shelter from cold winter winds.
Flowering Period: May - June.

Habit: Dipelta floribunda grows to be a medium sized or eventually large branching, upright shrub.

Dipelta floribunda. An upright deciduous shrub native to the lower mountains of China. Grows to a height of about 3.5m, with woody stems and pale peeling bark. Bears lance-shaped to oval, soft medium green leaves and large, drooping clusters of fragrant, pale pink flowers to 3cm in size. They have orange-yellow markings in the throat.


They are fully hardy and will require sun or semi-shade with fertile well drained soil. Benefits from the occasional removal of old shoots after flowering.
