I started my cactus collection with this "peanut cactus" 32 years ago! It is a delightful little cactus with soft friendly spines, and flowers readily once established. Best displayed in a bowl/hanging basket, due to its spreading/trailing habit.
Echinopsis genus (Thistle globe). There are about 120 species of evergreen perennial cacti which are native to South America. They will range from single, basal, globe-shaped stems, producing funnel-shaped brightly coloured flowers. The blooms will open mostly at night they are very short lived.
They are frost tender, min 5C, and will require full sun and well drained soil. It is easy to grow and will adapted well from long periods of neglect.
