Native to Korea and Manchuria, we are amazed that this lovely flowering tall shrub or small tree remains so rare in cultivation. The superb pure-white, 3 cm diameter flowers are produced freely at the first hint of spring and here remain unaffected by late frosts.

Exochorda serratifolia 'Snow White' is a sought after garden plant for its display of spring flowers.

Exochorda serratifolia ‘Snow White’ (Pearl Tree ). This shrub has abundant large, five-petalled pure-white flowers emerging from round white, pearl-like buds in early spring, and which are unaffected by late frosts. The foliage is bright grassy green.


They are fully hardy, and will grow best in full sun with fertile well drained soil. Improve vigour and flowering by thinning out old shoots after flowering.

Interest and use

A good tree for smaller gardens. Grown for its showy display of flowers in early spring.
