Cercis siliquastrum (Judas tree). This is a low spreading bushy species; it is quite an unusual tree which is native to Europe. It will bear blue green alternate, heart to kidney-shaped leaves about 9cm long. It will produce dense clusters of pink flowers which are borne directly on the dark brown-black fissured trunk. The fruits are green purple and pod-like.

Plant out as young specimens. Resents transplanting. They are fully hardy and will require full sun and deep, fertile well drained soil.
