Beta vulgaris ‘Swiss chard’ (Chard). This variety has upright stems. The leaves are green and are stemmed and eaten.


You should prepare your soil as you would for other garden crops in the autumn; dig in the compost and rotted manure. Harvesting may start in early summer and may end in mid autumn. You will need to keep your soil evenly moist during the growth period to promote well-formed roots that will mature evenly and do not split. This crop has an minimum optimum growing temperature of 15C and a maximum optimum growing temperature of 25C. Fairly easy to grow.
