New to us, Halesia monticola 'Variegata' is an unusual large shrub or small tree with an attractive cream-gold margin to the leaves. Once established it has masses of pretty white flowers in early summer.

Ideal in full sun or light, dappled shade, it is fairly slow growing for a Snowdrop tree with a tendency to form a multi-stemmed habit.

Halesia monticola ‘Variegata’ (Mountain Silverbell Tree). This variegated cultivar of the Silverbell tree has cream-edged, ovate leaves. It is noted for the bell-like white buds which hang off its long branches in Spring and which open into clematis-like, pure white flowers, with yellow stamens. Leaves turn yellow in autumn and the bark is veined with grey and black.
