A hardy US native that is one of the loveliest and most popular shrubs. Hydrangea arborescens 'Annabelle' has large, round, white flower heads (up to 15-25 cm across) produced en mass in mid to late summer. Leaves are dark green and turn yellow and bronze before falling in autumn.

A truly spectacular plant to brighten up a sunny or shady spot. Plant in small groups for even more impact.

Hydrangea arborescens ‘Annabelle’ (Seven barks). This variety bears large spherical flowerheads of mainly sterile cream flowers about 20cm across.


They are fully to frost hardy and will prefer sun or semi-shade with fertile, moist but well-drained soil. They will require more shade in dry areas; provide shelter from cold, drying winds. Some hydrangeas become chloritic in shallow chalk soil.
