Best grown in a light position out of direct sun, or the leaves take on a glassy sheen. They also become blotchy and the distinctive colours/stripes blur together if left out in the rain for a few weeks.
Tradescantia zebrina (Wandering jew). This is an evergreen mat-forming perennial which has bluish green leaves that are tinged with purple on the undersides with 2 broad silver bands. The flowers are pink to violet blue and are borne in mid spring to mid summer.
You will need to grow in full sun or partial-shade in fertile, moist to dry soil.
