Flowers in spring, strong smelling foliage. Edible. Has a strong flavour raw which fades quickly when cooked. Great ground cover over time, fine in shade.

Allium ursinum (Ramsons). This is a spreading plant. It has broad deep green leaves, and the flowers are in loose umbels of star shaped white flowers which bloom in the spring and summer. It has broad, deep green basal leaves, up to 7cm wide and which give off a powerful garlic smell when crushed. The flowering stems are about 30cm in height.
This species is found in damp, shaded woodland and can become invasive in gardens, spreading by slender rhizomes.
