A rare tree, Liriodendron tulipifera 'Rotundiloba has interesting rounded lobes on the leaves and good yellow autumn colours. once established. Mature, established plants produce attractive tulip-like flowers on the branches. Medium sized or eventually large specimen tree.

Grower Notes

Position: Full sun.
Soil: Moist, fertile soil. Liriodendron tulipifera 'Rotundiloba' does generally not grow well in dry soils which are prone to drying out in summer.
Hardiness: Hardy.
Flowering Period: June - July.
Flower Colour: Yellowish-green with orange markings
Rate of Growth: Moderate to vigorous.
Habit: Medium sized or eventually large branching tree.
Height: 15 - 20 m (50 - 65 ft)
Spread: 15 m (50 ft)

Notes: This plant will produce better quality, larger leaves in a position sheltered from strong winds. Please bear in mind that Liriodendron tulipifera 'Rotundiloba' does not start flowering for between 20 - 25 years.

Liriodendron tulipifera ‘Rotundiloba’. The leaves on this Tulip Tree have more rounded lobes. Leaves turn bright yellow before falling in autumn. Pale yellowish green flowers are produced after many years, with pink-orange chevron markings on the sepals, and resemble tulips when closed.


Tulip trees prefer lime-free soils. Shelter from strong winds to encourage large foliage.
