An uncommon, shrubby honeysuckle native to the United States, Lonicera involucrata has masses of yellow flowers in summer followed by bright red bracts and shiny purple-black fruit.

These colourful fruit last well into autumn, making Lonicera involucrata a highly ornamental garden plant with good year round interest. Also is popular with insects and butterflies.

Lonicera involucrata (Honeysuckle). This is a dense, bushy, deciduous shrub, with stout shoots and paired, bright mid-green leaves. It bears dark yellow, often red-suffuse flowers, in pairs from the leaf axils in late spring. They are surrounded by large green bracts that soon turn red, and are followed by glossy black berries.
