Plant Finder: about Lonicera ‘Mandarin’

Common names

Honeysuckle, Woodbine

Lonicera ‘Mandarin’ (Honeysuckle). These are deciduous, semi-evergreen or evergreen shrubs and woody-stemmed, twining climbers. The flowers are tubular, with spreading 2 lipped petal lobes. You should prune out the flowering wood of climbers after flowering.

They are fully hardy to frost tender, with a min of 5C. They are easily grown in sun or light shade, in any fertile, well drained soil. They will need regular pruning to keep them from becoming tangles. You can propagate from seeds in the autumn or spring or from cuttings in summer or late autumn. Prune out flowered wood of climbers after flowering. Prune shrubs only to remove dead shoots or restrain growth.

Interest and use

Grown for fragrant, year-round flowers which attract bees in the day and moths at night. Suitable for flower arranging. Suitable for coastal conditions.
