A wonderful semi-evergreen shrub, Lonicera x purpusii 'Winter Beauty' is well known for its masses of creamy-white, fragrant flowers in midwinter. The scent can carry a significant distance and a plant in our gardens has flowered reliably by Xmas for years.

A superb standalone shrub which is equally fetching trained against a wall or fence!
Its sprigs are ideal for winter flower arrangements.

Description

Lonicera x purpusii ‘Winter Beauty’. This is a semi-evergreen, highly fragrant winter honeysuckle with cream-white flowers with yellow anthers. The red-purple shoots unfurl into dark green leaves. The parents of this cross (L. fragrantissima and L. standishii) were collected in China and introduced to the UK in 1845.

Cultivation

Prune in late spring after flowering, as flowers are produced on 2 year-old wood. Can be fan-trained against a wall or fence.

Grown for their highly fragrant flowers which arrive in winter.
