A superb and reliable medium-sized shrub, Magnolia liliiflora 'Nigra' has masses of vivid dark purple-red, tulip-shaped flowers in summer. These appear on fairly young plants, stand out well against the mid green leaves and are followed by cone-like fruit later in the year.

An excellent shrub for summer flowers. Prefers sun or light, dappled shade with a little shelter from strong winds.
