This grower is sure of this plant identification.
Deutzia scabra. This is an ornamental shrub well know for its abundance of flowers. Has thick canes to about 3m high, opposite leaves are long, dark green and rough-textured. Large panicles of white-pink, star-shaped flowers terminate upper branches from mid-spring to early summer. Cultivars include; ‘Flore Pleno’ which has double flowers striped dull-pink on the outside. ‘Candidissima’ has pure white double flowers. ‘Pride of Rochester’ is double with large flowers faintly tinted purple outside.
They are fully to frost hardy and will need full sun with fertile, well drained soil. The plants will benefit from a regular thinning out of old shoots after flowering.
