Bold, almost pure white, occasionally flushed pink flowers in late spring or early summer on stout, 3-4' high stems.

Paeonia ostii 'Phoenix White' is unusual plant and especially handsome when grown against a dark backdrop which showcase the flowers well.

Paeonia ostii ‘Phoenix White’ (Tree Peony). This is a tree peony with large, fragrant, white flowers, flushed with pink and yellow centres. Foliage is a fresh yellow-green and leaves are deeply divided into oval to lance-shaped leaflets.


Grow in a sheltered position and only prune immediately after flowering when there is no chance of frost. Difficult to transplant.

Interest and use

Grown for fragrant, large flowers and foliage interest. Can be used as an informal hedge, or planted at the back of borders. Contrasts well with darker evergreens.
