A handsome tree, Quercus ellipsoidalis 'Hemelrijk' has bright green leaves which go a brilliant-red in autumn and can last for weeks. The tree keeps its cinnamon-coloured, dead leaves through winter before they finally fall in early spring.

In late spring, the young leaves emerge with a faint pink flush for a few days.
A majestic, vigorous tree for large gardens and woodland areas.

Description

Quercus ellipsoidalis ‘Hemelrijk’ (Northern Pin Oak). This oak has sharply divided leaves, almost holly-shaped, flushed with pink in spring and turning a rich, glossy green. The bark is dark grey. In autumn the leaves turn bright red. The dead, brown leaves remain on the tree until they are pushed off by the new leaf buds in the spring.

Cultivation

They are fully to frost hardy, and grow in sun or semi-shade in deep, well drained soil.

Grown for its foliage and autumn interest.
