Quercus rhysophylla ‘Maya’

This grower is sure of this plant identification.

A rare, evergreen Oak from N. Mexico, Quercus rhysophylla has bold, larger (up to 25 cm long), shiny-green leaves, shaped like a laurel but lighter in texture.

The new growth in spring is a beautiful, rich-purple before darkening to green. Late flushes of young growth in July/August may also be the same, vivid purple.

An unusual, colourful tree best with shelter from strong winds!
