A number of seedlings can be provided. Frost hardy in central Bath, Somerset. Note that it takes around 3 years before flowering from seedling stage. Can happily cover 4-6 metres of fencing and can be rampant! Not recommended for small gardens. Seed can be provided.

Passiflora caerulea (Blue passion flower). This is a fast-growing evergreen or semi-evergreen climber it produces beautiful flowers with pale pink petals. These are followed by edible, but not delicious, egg-shaped yellow fruit.


Plant in a rich, well-drained soil in full sun and water regularly in summer. Prune congested or overgrown plants in spring and provide support. Fully frost hardy to frost tender, they are best suited to warm areas. Propagate from seed or cuttings or by layering in summer.

Interest and use

Wall or trellis, conservatory, ornamental fruit, indoors. Summer/Autumn interest.
