Vitex agnus-castus

For sale by Bluebell Nursery

This grower is sure of this plant identification.

An unusual, deciduous shrub native to parts of Europe, particularly the Mediterranean region, with aromatic green leaves and fragrant, slender, violet flower panicles in late summer or early autumn. The flower spikes of Vitex agnus-castus are a little similar in appearance to those of Buddleja (Butterfly Bush) and popular with insects. A tasteful, late flowering shrub for a sunny garden!

Cultivation

They are moderately to marginally frost hardy, and will adapt to most soils, but will grow well in fertile soil with good drainage and plenty of summer moisture. Give them a sheltered spot with full sun. You can propagate from seeds in the autumn or spring or cuttings summer.
