Agapanthus praecox (Common Agapanthus). This is a clump forming, evergreen Agapanthus. It generally has purple-blue flowers which will bloom in the summer.

There are three subspecies: Agapanthus praecox subsp. praecox, Agapanthus praecox subsp. orientalis and Agapanthus praecox subsp. minimus


Suitable for coastal conditions. Can tolerate dry conditions.

Interest and use

Grown for their ornamental flowers and seedheads. Often used for cutting. Mixed borders, containers, massed plantings, gravel plantings.
