This grower is sure of this plant identification.

A native of North America, Pinus jeffreyi has handsome stout needles up to 8 inches long. Slow growing and rare in the UK, it eventually becomes a large tree. Conical when young, the needles are slender and grey-green in colour, appearing in bundles of three.

Mature trees produce large cones, up to 20 cm tall. A lovely tree and a fine addition to a large garden or woodland area.

Pinus jeffreyi (Jeffrey's pine). This species produces bluish-green sheaths, the needles are 5-7 inches long. The oval cones are 7-12 inches long.


They will grow in a wide range of conditions, they are wind resistant and will thrive on soils of moderate to low fertility which are well drained.
