Plant Finder: about Geranium x oxonianum f. thurstonianum ‘Sherwood’

Common names

Cranesbill, Hardy Geranium

Description

Geranium x oxonianum f. thurstonianum ‘Sherwood’ (Cranesbill). This hardy geranium has narrow, pointed petals flushed with pink and incised mid green leaves.

Cultivation

They are fully to half hardy. Most species will prefer sun, but some do better in the shade. They will grow in any but waterlogged soil. Outdoors, grow larger species and hybrids in any moderately fertile, well-drained soil. Grow small species and hybrids in humus-rich, sharply drained soil in full sun. Under glass, grow half hardy species in loam-based potting compost with added sharp sand, in bright filtered light. During the growing season, water freely and apply a balanced liquid fertilizer monthly. Water sparingly in winter.

Interest and use

Used in prairie-style plantings and informal cottage-garden style gardens, as well as in borders.
