Common names

Pukapuka, Rangiora, Shrubby ragwort


Brachyglottis repanda (Pukapuka). A very fast growing evergreen tree native to New Zealand. The leaves are opposite pairs of large, deep green, glossy leaves with wavy edges. In late winter to early spring large frothy profuse panicles of small, silvery green flowers are produced. The variety ‘Purpurea’ leaves are deep purple on the uppersides.


They are generally half hardy with a min of 0C. Give them full light or partial shade and well drained soil. You should water the containerized plants freely in the summer, moderately at other times.
