A clump forming perennial, Sedum 'Herbstfreude Group' has very attractive flat heads of small star-shaped, salmon-pink flowers in late summer and autumn. These flowers are very popular with bees and butterflies, also contrasting well with the dark grey-green fleshy leaves.

Sedum 'Herbstfreude Group' is an excellent addition to a sunny flowering border for late colour.

Sedum (Herbstfreude Group) ‘Herbstfreude’ (Ice plant 'Herbstfreude'). Also known as Sedum spectabile 'Autumn Joy'. Glaucus fleshy stems and leaves support large flat terminal clusters of starry flowers in early autumn. The flowers open from greenish-pink buds, changing colour through pale pink to deep pink and finally a rust brown.


Can be given the 'Chelsea Chop' in late May to encourage more compact growth. Staking may be necessary.

Interest and use

Grown for their flowers, which attract bees and beneficial insects, as well as their ornamental seedheads.
