Small yellow foxglove, Straw foxglove, Foxglove
Digitalis lutea (Small yellow foxglove). This is a clump-forming perennial foxglove to 1m tall. Native to Europe and North-West Africa. Raceme flower spikes are a very different cream colour with purple spots in the throat. Cut flowering stems down to the ground after spring flowering to encourage secondary spikes. Leaves are hairless and glossy, dark green leaves. Are sometimes cultivated for medicinal use.
The plants are hardy and will need sun or partial shade with humus-rich, well drained soil that does not dry out excessively.
Grown for their flower spikes in summer.
