Dwarf quince
Chaenomeles × superba ‘Crimson and Gold’ (Dwarf quince). A deciduous shrub which bears thorns and obovate, glossy dark green leaves. Dark crimson flowers with 5 petals and distinctive, gold anthers grow in a mass when it's springtime, then followed by round, yellow fruits.
They are fully hardy and will prefer a sunny position and well drained soil. On wall-trained shrubs cut back side-shoots after flowering to 2 or 3 buds and shorten shoots growing away from wall during growing season.
Spring interest.
