Skimmia anquetilia. This species is a creeping or upright shrub growing 30cm up to 2m, which is very aromatic. The pale yellow-green leaves will grow to 18cm, and are oblong to elliptic and leathery. The flowers are terminal panicles of green-yellow blooms in mid spirng to late spring, followed by orange-red fruits.
Skimmias are shade-lovers and grow very well with rhododendrons, azaleas and camellias. They need a moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil. Propagate by seed in autumn or from semi-ripe cuttings in late summer.
Grown for their flowers, aromatic foliage and their fruits.
