White scented flowers, evergreen leaves
False lily of the valley, Speirantha gardenii
Speirantha convallarioides (False lily of the valley). This plant resembles the Lily of the Valley Convallaria majalis in having a similar but slightly narrower leaf shape, and white flowers, as well as forming dense carpets in shaded areas in the spring, but here the similarity ends! The foliage is evergreen. The star-shaped flowers, held on tall stems and attached by long tubes, appear in panicles and are only lightly fragrant.
Grow in semi-shaded conditions in moist soil.
Grown as an ornamental plant, as underplanting, border edging and ground cover.
