Physalis edulis (Cape gooseberry). This species is a perennial herb with stems that grow to 1m. The leaves are ovate to cordate and about 10cm. The flowers are borne in yellow blotched purple-brown corymbs. The fruits are globose and 2cm in diameter and yellow to purple.
They will prefer moist, well-drained soil with a position in sun or partial-shade. You can propagate from seed or by division.
Grown mainly for their decorative, lantern-like calyces and fruits, produced in autumn. Leaves are poisonous if eaten.
